In Cambodia, over a quarter of all families are headed by women. Levels of health care and infrastructure are poor. The education system suffers greatly from a lack of skilled educators and managers.
Primary school enrolment is just 63% and for every 1000 students who enter primary school only 27 will graduate from upper secondary school.
Cambodia has achieved a degree of stability following many years of devastating conflict. It still remains one of the poorest countries in the region with the highest rate of HIV.
Cambodia's health system provides poor access to services for the most vulnerable in society and poor quality services even when they can be accessed.
Some of the most serious challenges affecting the health of Cambodians are in the areas of child and maternal health, particular those with HIV/AIDS.
Poor water quality in most of the country means most of the population suffer from diarrhoeal diseases most of the time.
Hope for Cambodian Children partners with communities to find lasting ways of improving the lives of children and their families while providing emergency relief when necessary.
